In our experience we've worked with many clients with their PLM implementations and have found that clients are not ready. Very busy resources  are assigned the additional collateral duty of supporting the implementation and it's not successful. Ineffective PLM for Process Implementations

Too much time is spent on process development during implementations. The implementation should be about learning and training on how to use the software not re-designing internal processes. Some processes will be developed during an implementation but they should be due to how the software is to be used and not about internal core processes. An example here would be when the business discovers data has not been collected or entered by a department that was originally assigned to do that task. Which, is often due to gaps in process, or overloaded or negligent resources. These occurrences can be major process implications and must be resolved, which is how you can quickly see the ramifications to a process implementation. A successful PLM implementation can't proceed until those gaps are resolved and it can take more time than what's available to resolve. Small issues can be resolved quickly but time spent toward process design takes away time from the implementation which is where the effectiveness of the implementation is impacted.

PLM for Process identifies process gaps and it does not allow much flexibility for resources to avoid or abandon process, which is why the software is so great! Process is how results are consistently achieved.

The result of an implementation without preparation is very consistent. The more technically savvy resource in the project team becomes the admin and is now tasked with trying to complete the implementation by training and sustained member's involvements and performing jobs outside the scope of an admin user. This is what happens when members of the project team are not effectively shown how their job integrates into PLM. They never discover how to use or incorporate PLM into their daily routine and internal processes. Sure they learn about PLM for Process and how to create things in PLM but what's missing is the cohesion with PLM.

NO cohesion means you've effectively added more work for already overloaded resources.
